My work is mostly influenced by my immediate environment. Having been a long time resident in Bangkok, this chaotic, paradoxical city is by far the most imposing impetus in my image making with various memories, events and observations creeping into the work.
I don’t consider the choice of images too deeply, I more often rely on instinct and spontaneity. I like to encourage different interpretations of the work leaving the viewer to unleash their prejudices and expectations thus interacting with their own psyche. I am interested in connotations and insinuations with seemingly odd marriages of imagery on the canvass.
I find that after a prolonged period working on a piece, seemingly unconnected images become more strongly connected (considering that everything is in some way is connected). A major factor in my work is that I always try to set a mood or a flavour that is dictated by attitude, experience and reaction to my surroundings with all its complexities and absurdities. Here I make use of contrasts, for example contrasting sickly sweet and harsh, dark images as vehicles to examine notions of cuteness, beauty and superficiality.
The human figure is pivotal in the work. I find it is more accessible and direct when connecting or eliciting responses thus the image immediately becomes charged and can create an immediate mental narrative.
